Plaintiff in lawsuit against Georgetown Steel supports Romney for president

8/13/2012- Two points in the recent spate of articles about Georgetown Steel, Bain (majority investor in Georgetown Steel), and Romney stand out: Shirley Carter, a plaintiff in the class-action lawsuit against Georgetown Steel supports Romney for president; and, the plaintiffs’ attorneys got 87% of the $870,000 payment made to local residents as part of the settlement, leaving residents with $113,000.

The steel plant, which has been open since 1969, has employed hundreds of local residents, and except for an 18-month closure that ended in January, 2011 amid concessions by the labor union, has remained open for business throughout its 42-year history.
